Busy as bumblebee……
Wow….I haven’t posted in a few months. Sorry folks, but I have been super busy. Busy busy busy…..
- I got married….The wedding and reception turned out great.
- Went to Jamaica for my honeymoon….we had a great time. Can’t wait to go back.
- Got in the ocean and rode a jet ski…..it wasn’t as bad as I thought
- Ran my first half marathon. I DID IT!
- Injured both knees in the ½ marathon. L
- I think it is runners’ knee but need to get a diagnosis from a Specialist
- So that means, no running until I find out what is wrong with my knees L
See I told you I was busy.
Have a great Memorial Day weekend.
Starting Over…..
Tomorrow marks Training Day 1 for my first ½ Marathon in May 2012. I will be using the Hal Higdon Half Marathon Training Guide – Novice 1 Program for my training. This training program was recommended by the Komen Team for all team members. I originally was going to follow the training plan that my job was offering but I missed the deadline to register. L But My GF who happens to be running with me, was able to sign up and will pass on all of the training information to me.
Hal Higdon also has a training app for my Iphone. It is $9.99. OUCH! I normally wouldn’t pay that much for a training plan but this is an important race and I will be running more miles than I ever did before. Therefore, I feel it is worth it. Besides all of the other apps didn’t get very good reviews, so I rather go with a plan that will help me meet my goals.
So, I have 12 weeks to get prepared for 13.1 miles. I have my training plan printed out on the frig and my app downloaded to my phone, so I am ready to RUNNNNNNNNN.

For week 1, my assignment doesn’t seem too hard. Even though it feels like I am going backgrounds, I understand why I need to take it slow and build up my endurance. 13.1 miles is no easy feat….
I am praying that we have a mild winter so that I can get outside and run. But if not, I guess the treadmill will become my BFF.
Training starts tomorrow. Let’s gooooooooooo!
13.1 Miles
So for the last few days, I have been seriously considering signing up for a 1/2 marathon. I know that I am currently training for a 10k race, but I figured I can just roll those training times into a 1/2 marathon training. I am already running 5+ miles in a hour, so instead of stopping at the 6 miles mark, just keep going.
I DID IT! I signed up for the Pittsburgh Marathon and will be joining the Susan Komen Breast Cancer Pittsburgh Team. If you want to make a donation, please click here.
On May 6, 2012, I will be running and should I say running/walking the 1/2 marathon. Here is the course map:
13.1 miles from start to finish.
My goal is to finish within the three hour and 1/2 time limit.
Heck, my main goal is to just finish.
So I have 14 weeks to go before my big RACE DAY. Let the countdown begin.
Oh wait, I am getting married April 7, so I will have about 12 weeks to really train.
Crazy, I know….
